We spent the morning packing the van as the heat slowly built. Shortly after noon we locked up and headed out. The council had chosen today to do some major roadworks, meaning that the first 15 minutes of our journey was winding our way around the little lanes to get to the main road. However, once we were underway the roads were clear, and we made excellent time to Portsmouth. We arrived with several hours to spare, so went to sit in the shade and sea breeze in a Portsmouth park, then went to MacDonalds for “dinner”.
We arrived for our ferry boarding bang on 2 hours before departure, then sat in interminable queues watching the antics of motorbikers (many) and dog owners (queue-jumpers). With the engine (and air conditioning) off, the temperature gradually rose to 30+, and we were very grateful to finally board.
Galicia is a fairly new (2 year old) ferry, and very comfortable. Lindsey had booked an outside cabin and also treated us to the Commodore Club lounge (with limitless free snacks and drinks, and an excellent view at the front of the ship). We headed to bed soon after dark, and all slept very well.
