14th July 2022
With another day forecast to reach 30 degrees, we had a well-deserved slow start. Breakfast was chocolate croissants, baguette with apricot jam, cherries, tea and coffee. We then had a relaxing morning, following the shade around the pitch and reading our books, whilst waiting for the tide to start coming in.
After lunch we headed off for our first proper beach experience of the holiday, with George’s inflatable body board. We went to the surfing beach where there were some really good waves coming in, and we all had a go at catching some. We then headed back to the pitch and swapped body board for paddle-board (pumping up boards in 30 degree heat is quite tiring!) On the other side of the campsite is the quiet beach, a really nice stretch of sand inside the estuary, well sheltered from the sea. The waters are very clear and blue, with clean white sand clearly visible on the bottom. I paddled over to the town on the other side of the river, weaving between moored boats and pushing against the incoming tide and wind as I crossed the entrance. With no good beaches to land on, I turned back for the campsite beach. We then headed back to the campsite for a shower and some dinner.
